The Running Dream, by Wendelin Van Draanen, is a touching book about determination and hope. Jessica loves running. She's on the track team. Until a freak accident leaves her without a leg, and another team member dead. She has to cope with her new identity and prosthetic limb. Things aren't the same. People don't know how to act around her, don't know what to say. It's then that she befriends a girl with CP, Rosa. Jessica begins to dream about running again. With the help of her new and old friends, family, and anonymus supporter, Jessica might be able to run again, but it's not enough. Rosa needs to cross a finish line, too.
I love this book. It really shows you that it doesn't matter what a person looks like or what they can and can't do. What matters is what's inside. They characters are unique. The book is really touching, and it will stay with you for a long time.
