The Blood of Olympus is a fantasy novel written by Rick Riordan. It is the fifth book in The Heroes of Olympus series. The novel is fantasy because it is based on Greek Mythology. Picking up from the first 4 books, the heroes are now split up into two groups. The first group is Jason, Piper, Leo, along with Percy, Annabeth, Frank, and Hazel. They are on the Argo 2 and they need to make it to the Acropolis in Athens, all while the earth mother, Gaea, is sending powerful monsters to stop them. They need to stop Gaea from waking up on August first and destroying the world. The second group consist of Coach Hedge, Nico, and Praetor Reyna who is heading to Camp Half-Blood in Long Island, New York, with the 40 foot Athena Parthenos. The Greek and Roman have been trying to destroy each other, and the only way to restore peace is returning the Athena Parthenos to the Greeks by a Roman leader. Will the heroes defeat the cruel and evil Earth Mother, or will it be the end of all life on Earth?
I personally like this book very much because the author uses a very creative style of writing. I also like the point of view switch in the series. I also like how the author made the characters have sarcasm and a funny sense of humor even when they are in danger. I can clearly picture the events and settings in my mind when I'm reading. I strongly recommend this book and this series to anyone who is interested in Greek and Roman Mythology.
