"Luxe is pretty girls in pretty dresses, partying until dawn. Irresistible boys with mischievous smiles and dangerous intentions. White lies, dark secrets, and scandals. Luxe is Manhattan, 1899." - Anna Godbersen.
Luxe is set in the glittering and elegant world of the late 1800's in New York, where romance and social status' rule the lives of society's elite. Elizabeth and Diana Holland are daughters of one of New York's oldest and most respected families. But when their life of luxury is threatened by the death of their father, Elizabeth must partake in an arranged marriage in order to secure her family's future. Her "fiancé" is Henry Schoonmaker, is also apart of a rich and respectable family. Little does Elizabeth know that her best friend- the flashy and provocative Penelope Hayes- is one of Henry's many lovers and had hoped to secure Henry's affection for herself. To make things more complicated, Elizabeth has her own secret love affair with Will Keller, a family servant who grew up alongside Elizabeth in the Holland household. A secret affair within one of New York's top socialites, scandalous. But one with a servant of the family, absolutely unacceptable. On top of everything, Henry has a growing affection for Elizabeth's sister, Diana. New York in 1899 is extravagant and decadent. But one question lies, when will all of these dirty lies destroy them all?
This book is absolutely as crazy and page-turning as you'd expect. It is like a classic take on Gossip Girl. I'd 100% say this is a book intended for the female audience, due to the gossipy scandal and twisted romances. You dive head first into the imperfect world of New York's finest and are rushing to finish the book to know what happens next.
