The Ghost of Crutchfield Hall

The Ghost of Crutchfield Hall, by Mary Downing Hahn, is a horror story. In this book, an orphan moves in with her uncle. She finds a home inhabited by a shell-like cousin, and an angry and judgmental aunt. She learns that her cousin, Sophie, died a few years back. Through whispered mentions and hushed tales, Florence learns that the seemingly perfect girl, was really horrible. Soon she begins to hear and see weird things. The manor house staff claim its Sophie. But could it really be? Could the dead girl still be alive and ready to take revenge on her brother and the new girl she thinks is replacing her-Florence?
I think this is a good read for 2nd to 4th graders. I originally read it in 3rd grade and really liked it, but now it is a little boring. It's not too scary, so it won't scare younger kids, but it would still be interesting for them. For older kids, this book could be a little dull. If you are bored and want a quick read, this book is for you.
