After Ever After

After Ever After, by Jordan Sonnenblick, is about Jeffrey. He's no longer the kid with cancer, as he's in remission. His parents treat him like a glass vase, and his brother ran off to Africa to join a drumming circle, and "find himself". Jeffrey is just trying to survive to year, but he has trouble in math and is worried about standardized testing. His best friend is keeping a huge secret from him, one that could change his world forever. He falls for a cute new girl who seems to think he's cute. Jeffrey will struggle to keep his head up, and learn important lessons on the way.
I liked the morals learned in this book. They were meaningful. The characters were likable. The ending was pretty sad, but I'd still recommend it. The personalities of the characters will have you relating to some of their struggles.
