The Underdogs By Mike Lupica

Plop, fumble!!! Your face is in the muddy ground and you’re in the championship game. You fumble the ball and everyone is laughing or they are furious with you. What can you do?
That’s what happens to the main character Will Tyler, in the beginning of the book in The Underdogs by Mike Lupica. The genre of this book is realistic fiction.
Will lives in a small town in Pennsylvania called Forbes. It is like a ghost town because the factory that made football cleats, the Forbes Flyers, got shut down, which caused every to move away. Now most of Will’s friends have moved away and so did most of the football player’s on the team. So now, there might not be a football team for the Forbes Bulldogs unless they find a coach and two other players. They also don’t have enough money to fund the team in the town, and Will feels as if there is a hole in his heart that cannot be filled. I can’t imagine losing my basketball season and I would be devastated like Will. How would you feel if something you love is taken away from you?
I recommend this book to people who like sport books. I also recommend it to people who like books where the character messes up tries to fix it. If you are a father and son relationship type, then you should read this book as well.
Do you think Will find all the money to get the equipment and to find a new coach and two more players to fill up his roster? What will happen if the Bulldogs have a season? Will they beat Castle Rock in the championship this time? Will all the other teams in the town try to find money for their teams, so they could have their season? Find out by reading The Underdogs by Mike Lupica.
