You are madly
in love with the guy of your dreams, but then you find out that he isn’t the
right guy for you. How long would it take you to get over your passion for this
person?
Bella has
the same dilemma in, It’s Not Summer Without You, by Jenny Han. Bella
and her brothers habitually go to their beach house in the summer with their
family friends, Conrad and Jeremiah (who are teenage boys) and their mom
Susannah. Conrad and Bella are in love, but it is difficult to keep a long
distance relationship; Conrad lives three hours away. Then something
devastating happens; Susannah passes away from cancer. Shortly after, Conrad
runs away! Will their families still go to the beach house the following next
summer? Will Conrad and Bella’s’ relationship last?
This book
has an oversupply of drama and relationship struggles. That is why I would
recommend this novel to mostly girls who like realistic fiction books. Bella is
telling the story so guys wouldn’t like it that much. This book keeps you
guessing a lot. You have to guess what would happen to Conrad and Bella. You
also have to predict what is going to happen to the beach house.
I really
enjoy Jenny Han. She writes about topics that you can relate to. I think that
Han went through some of the drama when she was a teenager because her
descriptions about each topic are really realistic. Read It’s Not Summer
Without You for some love, some sadness, and some drama.
