Do you think you can lead sixty-five men into Afghanistan
and bring them all back alive? Can you survive almost endless poundings of
machine guns and survive Recon Marine training? In One Bullet Away, by
Nathaniel Flick, the main character, which is also the author, has to do that.
It starts off as he heads toward the training center to begin
his training. Obviously, he passes and qualifies as an expert gunner. According
to what he says, he nearly passed out during the ten-mile run. Will he pass the
training, or be kicked out of Recon? Whether or not he does, will he fulfill
his private mission of bringing his team all home without a body bag?
All the turmoil begins after 9-11; he is sent to Afghanistan
on missions that go from patrolling a bridge to bombing an enemy stronghold. Later
on, he is offered a promotion to Recon.
I enjoy this book because it goes
into full detail about the Marine Corps. It explains everything: starting from
training all the way up to escaping the life of a prisoner of war. If you’ve
wondered what a battle is like, then here’s your book. It turns out that any
attack can come at any second, as well as the fact that a battle won’t be how
you might expect. So far, do you think being a U.S. marine is easy? Read this
and find out.
