Witch and Wizard by James Patterson and Gabrielle Chabornnet

What do you think of when you hear the words "Fantasy Novel?" A wondrous coming of age story, like the Harry Potter books? A vampire romance, like the Twilight novels? Well, Witch and Wizard by James Patterson and Gabrielle Chabornnet is a different, more realistic take on the fantasy genre. In modern times, an organization called the New Order has taken over all forms of government, and have banned all forms of art, especially magic. Unfortunately for Whitford and Wisteria Allgood, magic runs in the family. The siblings are abducted by the New Order and sent to a prison facility in the organization's capital. Now, the two must escape from the new order, find their parents and... save the world?

I enjoyed reading this book because of it's characters, it's pacing, and it's uniqueness. The characters in the book are well-written and relatable, despite being based in a near-apocalyptic society, and having magical powers. Other fantasy stories might have characters that aren't as easy for the reader to relate to, because their situation is so unrealistic. Another thing I like is the way it's paced. It's not too fast as to throw a bunch of information in your face, but not so slow as to lose your interest. The last thing I like about this book is it's uniqueness. While there are a lot of fantasy stories out there, I can honestly say that I've never read anything like this one. It's uniqueness in it's genre makes it a must read. I recommend this book to anyone looking for something new and exciting to read.
