Girl Out of Water, Laura Silverman

This year, my favorite book that I've read was Girl Out of Water, by Laura Silverman, a realistic fiction book. It is realistic fiction because the plot and storyline is something that could happen in someone's everyday life, but the characters were completely made up from the author's imagination. In the story, the main character Anise Sawyer has never left home, Santa Cruz, because she's never had a reason to. She has everything she needs. Friends. Surfing. Her Dad. And even a relationship starting to form with one of her best friends. That's until her aunt gets into a terrible car crash and breaks both of her legs. Anise has to say goodbye to her long, surfing, summer days with friends and leave home to take care of her three little cousins in Nebraska. It's not easy for her to adjust to her new home, she will be living in for the rest of the summer; the same house her runaway mother grew up in. Anise's mom ran away when Anise was just a little girl and keeps appearing in her life to stay for a few weeks and then disappears again. During Anise's stay in Nebraska, she goes through tough times with her teenage cousin and her twin cousins drive her insane until she meets a boy, Lincoln. Instantly, she is attracted to him and he feels the same way about her. Anise traders her surfboard for a skateboard and allows Lincoln to teach her how to skate. They become closer and Anise loses contact with her friends back home. Which brings her back to one main question. Will she end up being similar to her mom and lose the ones she loves? Or will she reconnect with her friends when she gets back home after missing an important, fun-filled, surfing, summer with her best friends?
I recommend this book 100% because not only is it my favorite genre, but it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. If you love realistic fiction books with some romance in it, then this book is perfect for you! Laura Silverman put in the right amount of romance to make this story interesting but still romantic. While this story has a lot going on, you never get bored with it, because there is always a plot twist, or an exciting event happening! Lastly, this book is not like any other book I've ever read. The storyline is different and unique, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat. I wholeheartedly recommend this book because it kept me on the edge of my seat and it was the perfect combination of happy, romantic, and sad, making it a great realistic fiction book.
