Code Talkers by Joseph Bruchac

Image result for code talkers book summary

Code Talkers by Joseph Bruchac is a historical fiction novel about the important role that Navajo Indians had in World War II. Ned Begay and other Navajo Indians went to a boarding school where everyone is white and are taught that Navajo is a useless and unimportant language. But then they are recruited by the Marines in the war to help send secret messages in their foreign language. Ned wants to be a Marine, but soon realizes the hardships and racism that goes along with it. To find out more about this great war story, go pick up this book.

I enjoyed reading this book because of the real information provided throughout. It's a real eye opener on how Americans treated the Navajo Indians even though they were a big and crucial part of the war. You'll follow Ned through his whole journey and get thrown through a whirlwind of action, adventure, and empathy.
