Five Kingdoms Crystal Keepers!!!

  Five Kingdoms Crystal Keepers by Brandon Mull. The genre of my book is fantasy because there are swords that can jump when you demand them too. This book is a series book so you have to read the other two books. In my book Mira is a princess with the rest of her sisters because their father the High King stole their powers and is said to have killed them. Cole is helping Mira find all of her sisters before the king finds them because they escaped from prison.  Joe, Mira's protector, is part of the Unseen. Joe was captured by the police and was getting transferred. While getting transferred the Unseen and Cole and his friends were trying to retrieve Joe back because the police would torture him for information on the princesses. While trying to Joe back Cole was captured by the Hunter. The Hunter said that Cole was his brother and Cole didn't believe him but he finally did. After that the Unseen retrieved Joe. What will happen to Cole and Mira?

                 Five Kingdoms Crystal Keepers is the best book that everyone should read. This is because the author leaves you hanging with his word choices. Also there is so much action and adventure you never stop reading. I love this book because you never know what will happen next. The next book you should read is Five Kingdoms Crystal Keepers.

Girl Stolen by April Henry

                This book is realistic fiction, the main characters are Cheyenne, Griffin, and Roy. Cheyenne is a young girl that is very sick and blind. Griffin is a thief who works for Roy, his dad. One night, when Cheyenne and her stepmom went to the pharmacy for her medications her stepmom went inside and left Cheyenne in the car while it was running when Griffin got in and drove away not knowing Cheyenne was in the back seat. She couldn't tell if it was her stepmom or not because she could not see. When Griffin sees her he panics ¨What have I done!¨ it´s too late to turn back so he brought her to his house that he shares with Roy his dad and two other workers. Roy says to kill her but Griffin refused and would bring her food everyday to the bed she was tied to. Will she ever escape, or will she just die from her sickness?                

 I loved this book, it was suspenseful, interesting and nerve-wrecking as you read on. There was a new plan or worry on each page making you want to keep reading. Also, you can never put it down because of how interesting it is to hear how she plans to get out. Lastly, it's scary because you´re around the same age as her and it makes you wonder what if that was me.  I really recommend this book to anyone who likes murder mystery or suspense because it's intense and crazy.

Gone by Michael Grant

What would you do if all the people 15 years and older disappeared into thin air as well as people started developing strange powers, well that is what this book is about.  The book Gone by Michael Grant is a sci-fi book, the main characters in this book are Sam Temple, Caine Soren, Astrid Ellison, Diana Ladris, and Peter (Little Pete) Ellison. This book takes place at Perdido beach, California. In this book during school all of the teachers and kids 15 and older suddenly disappear into thin air. At first most of the kids just think its a joke and don't take it seriously. Then kids start realizing that everyone 15 years and older in the town has dissapeared.As well there is a blue wall around the town that burns to the touch and traps everyone in the town. Then while everyone is in disbelief things start going bad when a fire starts. Sam the main character goes in the house on fire to save a girl but when he gets there the girl starts shooting fire out of her hands at Sam. Sam can't save the girl but realises that something weird is going on and he can make light come out of his hands. What is going on in perdido beach? Read the book and find out.

           I personally love this book and the five other books in the series.  I love this book because the author is able to tell all of the struggles of kids being left alone to fend for them self.  This book is also really good at making everything that happens realistic and run.  This book is also full of action, the book will have lots of little problems that occur while leading up to the big action of the book. The book has a timer at the top of each chapter which count's down to the big conflict.  I recommend this book to any who has read the Monument 14 series, I am number four series, or anyone who likes sci-fi books.

Hight Heat By: Carl Deuker

      My favorite book I have read this year is High Heat by Carl Deuker, the genre of this book is Realistic Fiction. The main character in this book is Shane.   Shane has gone through tons of tragedy in the last year, more then most teenagers do. These being the suicide of his father and the caused injury of a fellow player. The caused injury was when he was pitching he purposely hit another player in the head with his hardest fastball. This destroyed the other player Reese's career. Even though the pitch was purposeful it still left Shane startled. He didn't want to ruin Reese's career. In my book Shane battles back and trains almost every day. When the season starts Shane is catching fire on the mound. Having no losses going into game 9 of the season with maybe 1-2 runs allowed. Shane even got a scouts attention and was offered a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Portland. Not Shane's dream college but comparing a D1 scholarship to not even playing a sport in college, it's a dream come true. Shane has not been given the scholarship yet though. He has to earn it while the scout is watching because the coach doesn't believe he has enough stability and mental control to play. When the scout comes to the game though Shane struggles. Losing the game and maybe even the scout. Shane has to pitch lights out for the scout to offer him a scholarship. Will Shane get the scholarship, or will he lose his chance? Read this book to find out.

        I would recommend this book to anyone who has read a Mike Lupica book or anyone who likes sports. This book is a really great book for readers of the Middle School age It has many great lessons in it about overcoming and fighting back. This book really hooks you because you just want to know what Shane is going to do next. You just want to see him succeed. In my opinion this book is one of the best books I read in a while. I really liked the plot and story line. The book really touches you. So go get your self a copy of this book from your local library and read right into it.

The Compound

      Imagine you were crying, things were on fire around you, and you were running to a secret underground bunker your father built. This is what happened to a boy named Eli Yanakakis when he was only six years old. Fast forward seven years and that's where our story starts. Eli, his mom and dad, and his two sisters are starting to get tired and more anxious to get outside. But Eli's dad says they can only come out after twenty years have passed. They have been able to survive for thirteen years, but they have run into some very bad problems. Their food supply is starting to shrink, the livestock is starting to die, and the air filters have started to malfunction. If you want to find out what happens to the Yanakakis family, pick up this book at the HMS library.

      I like The Compound because of the tension, each chapter keeps you on the edge of your seat. I also like the character development of each character in the story. There are some crazy things that staying in an underground bunker for thirteen years can do to you. To add, the story has a great flow throughout the whole book. In conclusion, The Compound, is a very good book.

Monument 14: Sky On Fire By Emmy Laybourne

*Exclaimer* This is the second book in the series. The first book is entitled Monument 14. Read the first book first before you read this one. It is a continuous story. 

 Dean is type O blood type so he  decided to stay with Astrid (senior in high school), Chloe (third grader) Henry and Caroline McKinley (both in kindergarten). Different natural disasters caused a lot of chemicals to be released into the air because of some malfunctions. These chemicals cause people to react differently based on their blood type. Type O makes you turn into a rage monster. Type AB causes paranoia. Finally Type B causes you to get extreme blisters.  The other people teens and children apart of the monument 14 left the 5 to try and make to Denver Airport, where they were sending planes to Canada and Alaska. Their plan was to get to safety and then send people to the superstore in Colorado to get the others saved. While the others are on the bus on their way ton safety, Dean and company are battling against themselves because of the different type O's and other people trying to get inside the superstore. Alex is also battling different problems with traveling and invaders. Find out if these two brothers can find each other and if they can reconnect with their friends and family.

This book is a great read and I recommend it to young adults. It has fast paced action and it has like good character development. This books makes people feel for the characters and makes you have a connection for them. They are going through normal teenage things throughout the story while this epidemic is going on. Even if you don't feel like reading the first book, there is a little explainer at the very beginning of the book. Also if it gets confusing at one point, it will always explain what's happening at one point in the book. Make sure you pick up Monument 14: Sky On Fire. It will make you not want to put the book down.

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne

 The book I have chosen to write a blog about is "Monument 14" by Emmy Laybourne. This book takes place in Monument, Colorado in the year 2024. I believe it is realistic fiction because the events in the book can actually happen in real life. It follows a high schooler boy named Dean as he has to survive an apocalypse. It all starts out as a normal school day when very severe storms and hail fall onto his bus. As they drive to get to school, a very large piece of hail hits the bus, causing the driver to pull the bus over. They end up stopping at a Greenway Supermarket, and when another large piece of hail falls, it hits the bus driver and kills her. Dean and the other survivors like Jake, Astrid, Josie, Alex (his brother), and Niko had to get into the Greenway as the bus got flipped. A teacher named Ms. Wooly proceeds to give them seven other kids ranging from 13 to 6. All seems okay until an earthquake causes a base full of chemical weapons to flood into the air. This causes people with blood type O to turn into rage monsters, people with blood type AB get paranoia, blood type B has a loss of sexual function, and blood type A gets blistered up and the blisters explode and kill them. Now they're stuck in a massive superstore until the chemical weapons clear away which could take up to 3 MONTHS! Will they end up surviving? Find out when you pick up Monument 14 at the HMS Library! 

            I recommend this book for quite a few reasons. First of all, this book is great to both genders since it is a tale of survival and doesn't focus on a specific gender to advertise to. Also, I really like this book because it has many twists and turns that you wouldn't ever expect! Another thing is that the book is a series so it will have you hooked on from the amazing plot as well as give you something fun to read when at school or even over the summer. Finally, I recommend this book to anybody who enjoyed the Maze Runner or Hunger Games because they are all dystopian survival stories. This is why you should read "Monument 14" by Emmy Laybourne!
